Benefits of Collagen for Weight Loss

Losing weight can be hard and keeping the weight down can be even harder. The good news is that numerous studies have shown how collagen may be able to help. Collagen can not only help you lose weight, but it can also help you deal with some of the side effects of weight loss too, including ensuring your body stays strong and maintaining the integrity of your skin after shedding a few pounds. Below you will find three ways in which collagen can be useful when it comes to losing weight.

Collagen can provide fullness

Collagen supplements may increase satiety, or the feeling of fullness. This could aid weight loss and management by reducing hunger, and therefore, how many calories you eat in a day. Collagen might have this effect because it’s a protein. According to a 2020 review, high-protein diets increase satiety hormones like glucagon-like peptide-1 and cholecystokinin. They also suppress ghrelin, a hunger hormone.

Another study from The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, reported that increased protein intake can also increase thermogenesis, which influences satiety and energy expenditure.

Collagen can increase muscle mass

Building muscle is an essential component of weight loss. That’s because muscle burns more calories at rest, increasing overall calorie expenditure. Taking collagen supplements may help your efforts by increasing muscle mass as it is the main structural protein in your muscles. In a 2015 study involving older adults, participants with age-related muscle loss completed 12 weeks of weight training. Half of the participants took collagen peptide supplements, while the other half took a placebo.

Those who took collagen peptides experienced a greater improvement in muscle mass and strength. They also lost more fat mass than the placebo group. These results suggest that collagen supplements can support loss of body fat by enhancing the effects of weight training on muscle mass.

Collagen can help reduce fat accumulation

There’s some evidence that collagen may reduce the development and accumulation of fat cells. A recent study found that collagen from skate, a type of fish, reduces body fat in humans. The amount of fat lost was small, but it suggests potential benefits for weight loss. Another study showed that collagen peptides from skate had an anti-obesity effect in mice. The two studies, along with others helped researchers determine that collagen both improves fat metabolism and reduces fat accumulation.

Another benefit to mention is that collagen also helps improve skin elasticity, reduce the appearance of skin wrinkles, and increase skin hydration. The amount of collagen and elastin proteins in our skin diminish over time causing the skin to sag and lose plumpness. Thankfully, collagen peptides improve the layer of the skin called the dermis which will help to improve the appearance of the skin. Which means that as you lose weight, your body will feel good and look good from the inside out.

A collagen supplement, like Strong Cell isn’t a magic bullet or a substitute for healthy habits. For sustainable weight loss, it’s still important to eat well and exercise regularly. However, taking Strong Cell’s NADH, CoQ10 + Collagen liquid supplement as part of a holistic regimen will provide you with numerous benefits.
